My favorite European bank, N26, recently confirmed that they would open registrations for their UK current accounts in November 2018.
After running a closed “friends & familiy” beta during November, they finally opened up for public registrations on December 1, 2018.
Not only are N26 expanding to the UK, but they will also launch in the US in the first half of 2018.

What features do N26 offer in the UK?
The basic product is virtually the same as in the rest of the EU, the primary difference is that you’ll get a UK account number and sort code. N26’s banking license is also valid in the UK, so your deposits will still be insured up to the equivalent of €100,000.
If you can send SEPA transfers from your UK N26 account or if you need to use the built-in TransferWise integration remains to be seen. My bet is the latter, at least for now.
N26’s premium plans (Black and Metal) are a bit different in the UK compared to the rest of Europe.
While Black doesn’t offer travel insurance in the UK, it’s also a lot cheaper. Just £4.90 vs €9.90 elsewhere. Great if you already have travel insurance, and just want to avoid ATM fees abroad.
Metal’s pricing is as expected (£14.90 vs €16.90 elsewhere). However, in addition to travel insurance and selected partner offerings, it also features a LoungeKey membership. This gives you access to over 1,000 airport lounges worldwide for only £15 per person. For comparison, other UK fintechs charges their Metal cardholders £25 pp/visit for the same privilege.
The following features will only be available a bit after the official launch:
- Apple Pay (Google Pay is now available)
